Early Life

Makenzi Foster was born in a small village nestled within the massive forest known as the Black Shroud of the land of Eorzea. Raised by her widowed mother whose husband was "taken" by the Lord of Levin, while she still carried the unborn Makenzi in her womb.The infant hyur came into the world bearing an unusual birth defect—a non pigmented right eye. The other villagers took it as a fell-omen. Of a curse surely lain upon her by unclean and malevolent spirits. As a consequence, young Makenzi was shunned and treated with mistrust and on occasion outright hostility.The meek girl bore it all, not with resentment and anger in her heart, but a fervent desire to help others and mend the hurts of the world. But beneath it all she harbored a deep loneliness, with only her mother to show her any true affection.In her isolation she would speak with the 'spirits' that only she was able to see. This afforded her more of her fellow villagers' distrust, who encouraged their children to avoid the strange girl.Makenzi spent the majority of her young life helping her mother where she was able. From household chores, to picking herbs and mushrooms in the forest. It was around the age of ten summers that Makenzi began to exhibit an aptitude for the healing arts. She would bring home injured animals and tend to them, most making recoveries that would have otherwise seemed impossible, but for the use of aether. She did this unconsciously and her mother noticed.It was some years later that her mother revealed to her that she had been corresponding with the master of the Conjurer's Guild in Gridania. Having put aside some gil and secured transport on a caravan for Makenzi. She was to study under E-Sumi-Yan, to become a healer...
